About the Holua tennis & pickleball center

What the Holua center in Keauhou is today, what it offers tennis and pickleball players, and where the facts come from.

Independent page. This domain previously hosted the Holua Tennis and Pickleball Center's own website, and older travel blogs still link to its "about us" page — often to recommend tennis lessons at the "Holua Tennis Center." This replacement page is written by an unaffiliated site from public sources; it does not speak for the facility.

The center today: Holua Racquet & Paddle

The courts at 78-7190 Kaleiopapa Street in Keauhou, on the Kona side of Hawaiʻi Island, operate as Holua Racquet & Paddle. Its website calls it "The Largest Tennis & Pickleball Facility in Hawaii," and Outrigger Hospitality's 2025 tournament announcement uses similar language — "the state's largest tennis and pickleball facility" — placing it on the oceanfront landscape of Keauhou Bay, a short walk from the OUTRIGGER Kona Resort & Spa. Directories such as Bounce still list the venue as the Holua Tennis & Pickleball Center.

Tennis at Holua

Holua's tennis offering centers on seven lighted courts and a stadium court the facility describes as ATP- and WTA-standard. Lessons are offered for individuals and groups, alongside clinics, tournaments and social play.

Pickleball at Holua

Pickleball has become the bigger draw. With 20 permanent courts — eight of them lit for evening play — Holua is described by Hawaii.com as "the island's main pickleball hub." Daily social (open) play lets visitors join games without a group of their own, and the guide notes plentiful free parking and a friendly regular community, with the trade-off that non-members pay to play.

The name

"Hōlua" refers to the traditional Hawaiian sport of land sledding. The Keauhou Hōlua Slide, a National Historic Landmark, runs downslope to Kaleiopapa Street — the street the courts are on. Read more on the Keauhou hōlua slide.
